What do you do when you find that the number of Latin programs for elementary school students in your district has decreased? Find another way to bring classics to children! The presenter will outline how she formed a Classics Club for students in grades 5-8, meeting at two area high schools. From planning to execution, JCL members took the lead, with Magistra supervising. Students who were already enthusiastic about Latin experienced the joy of mentoring new learners, working collaboratively with their peers, and solidifying their own knowledge through teaching. The presenter will discuss the collaborative planning process, which took place both face-to-face and online; the topics and activities, and some of the challenges that the group faced. Participants will have the opportunity to sketch out plans for a Classics Club in their own district, building on the structures that these JCL students developed.
